Moor in running for top award
HEATON Moor Rugby Club’s junior section is in the running for a national award.
The Green Lane club is in the final six of the Youth-Mini Section of the Year category of the Lawson Keys National Rugby Awards.
The awards will be handed out at Twicken- ham on September 2 when judges include former England internationals Jeremy Guscott and Jeff Probyn.
Phil Yeomans, chairman of the mini and junior section at Heaton Moor, said: “In the year the World Cup comes to England this is great recognition for the efforts of all our players, coaches and volunteers.
“It shows what a fantastic club Heaton Moor is for anyone to play rugby at, whether new or experienced, and we hope this award encourages even more children between the ages of five and 16 to come and play for the club.”
A successful season saw the under-13s reach the Lancashire County Cup final and the under-11s go all season unbeaten.
Judges were also impressed with the work of the club’s development officer, Paul Bailey, at schools while playing numbers have doubled to over 300 in the three seasons.
