Establishing stadium facts

- MIKE DAVIES

THE Co-op board intends to get to the bottom of this week’s developments concerning the future of Edgeley Park.

First there was talk on social media of a group of fans putting forward plans of their own for the purchase of the ground, and now we hear the club and the town hall executives have been in discussions which could lead to County becoming tenants of the Council.

A meeting of Co-op members is planned for the near future, at which it is intended to throw some light on the latest developments.

In the run up to this meeting, board members are planning to meet with all the parties concerned and to question them on the proposals, so that the board can present the full picture to Co-op members when they report back.

Amongst the questions will be one about the implications for the Asset of Community Value status that the Co-op achieved for Edgeley Park, which allows the Co-op six months to prepare a bid of its own if the stadium comes up for sale. The role of the supporters in any deal will also be of great interest.

The group of fans who showed in interest in buying Edgeley Park have already been asked to provide further information and they will be requested to submit this in advance of the members’ meeting.

Also at the meeting, one lucky fan will become the owner of a free season ticket in a draw of all those who responded to the Co-op’s survey of supporters.

It’s still not too late to complete the survey which can be found on the Co-op website: www. countysupporterscoop. co.uk and you don’t have to be a member to do it.

Information gathered from the survey concerning supporters’ views and experiences will help the Co-op in carrying out its role as the representative body of the fans.

The number of entrants for the Co-op half marathon on September 6th is growing, and the organising committee is in the lookout for marshals and other volunteers to help on the day. An introductory session to brief all helpers will be held in the next few weeks. In the meantime you can offer you services at the Hatters Half website: hattershalf. co.uk, or, alternatively, sign up to take part in the race.
