Morton’s full of Hatters optimism
DANNY Morton insists Stockport County are capable of challenging for promotion to the National League next season.
The 22-year-old defender signed from Clitheroe last month, bringing his 18-month tenure at Shawbridge to an end.
His time at the Evo-Stik League First Division North team saw him named club captain, along with scooping last season’s Young Player of the Year award.
Morton is now fully committed to Stockport’s forthcoming campaign though, and he doesn’t see any reason why it won’t be a successful one.
“I think we’re going to be up there with the ambition that the manager Neil Young has got, the way he talks and with the players he’s brought in,” he told the club’s official website.
“I don’t know too much about the league but I’ve played against a few of the teams in it and I think we’ll have a good season.
“I knew County was a big club but as soon as Neil got in touch and I came down for a chat and a look around, I felt at home straight away.
“It was a bit of a no brainer really when you look at the size of the club; once Neil said he was interested then my mind was made up.”
