Heartless thieves take collecting boxes in memory of cancer boy from church
MEMBERS of a Hazel Grove church are urging people to be on the lookout after a charity collection was stolen.
The box, in which Hazel Grove United Reformed Church collects foreign coins and old English coins for the Alex Hulme Foundation, was stolen from the porch of the church on Short Street sometime between June 13 and June 20.
Another donations box was subsequently also stolen.
Margaret Harrop from the church said: “I noticed it was gone when I went to church on Sunday.
“Luckily the other box had recently been emptied. I’d guess when they realised the first one was just foreign and old coins they came back and swiped the second box.”
The first box is a round, white tub with Alex Hulme Foundation stickers on it.
Margaret said: “We are hoping when they realised what was in it they will have dumped it somewhere.
“I don’t know how people can rob from a charity.”
If anyone finds the tub they can return it to the church, which is open on Tuesday or Thursday morning, or contact the Alex Hulme foundation; alexhulmefoundation.co.uk.
