VIP guests meet media students at celebration
PURE 107.8FM put on a special celebration night for students on their new course which aims to get people with additional needs into work.
Special guests from the worlds of TV, sport and comedy turned up for the launch party of Pure’s Workskills in the Media course as Presenter
explains: “Stockport’s radio station is working closely with our parent charity Pure Innovations to offer a new training programme for people with high functioning autism or similar conditions the opportunity to complete a 12-month open college network qualification.
It’s designed to give students practical skills to help them find employment. There is also the opportunity to contribute to our disability magazine radio programme One Voice and the possibility of work placements at other media organisations.
We were delighted to be joined by special guests Luis Troyano from the Great British Bake Off, Paralympic swimming champion Matt Walker MBE and comedian Tony Basnett from Trapdoor Comedy.
Luis judged our own Great Pure Bake Off and brought in a delicious carrot cake. Matt Walker entertained everybody with his stories about trips to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen.
We were also joined by John Landells from IT company Notebook Repair and Karen Kime from Stockport Council, both of whom have donated equipment or funds to setting up the project.”
