Hornby off the mark with first win

- MOTOR SPORT MIKE PETCH

KYLE Hornby took his first Rookie victory in the Kick Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire over the weekend.

Hornby, from Hazel Grove, took his maiden Rookie Cup victory ahead of Championship Title contender Sophia Floersch, defending well for five laps as Floersch made every effort to pass the former Super One racer.

Kyle had qualified his Ginetta G40 strongly, lining up seventh for the first of two races around Croft’s 2.1mile layout. That’s where he would finish Race 1, in the middle of a tightly fought battle of six racers tussling over third place – enough to put him on the third step of the Rookie podium.

The following day, Race 2 saw Kyle take advantage of Floersch and Billy Monger tangling on lap four at the hairpin, grabbing his first Rookie Cup victory and second place overall by just 0.307secs from third placed Floersch.

Kyle sits 10th now in the overall Championship as the series breaks for summer to return at Snetterton in Norfolk on the 8-9 August.
