Poynton ease to victory

- MARTIN SAXON PRESTBURY .........138-8 POYNTON .............139-5

POYNTON maintained their excellent home record with a fairly comfortable win over bottom of the table Prestbury, although the victory was not quite as emphatic as it appeared it might be at one stage.

Prestbury captain Ben Oakes won the toss and elected to bat first, with runs proving hard to come by, 13 off the first seven overs in fact.

The ever-reliable Poynton captain Jimmy Williams took two early wickets, as did new ball partner Tom Hamnett in a very accurate spell, and when Damian Stringer got in on the act, Prestbury were 45-5.

Although a superb full-length catch from Jimmy Williams ended Connor Hibel’s breezy knock of 23, Dominic Asquith made an unbeaten 43 to take his side to a respectable score.

Simon Dunn and Nathan Baxter started the Poynton reply well, working the ball into the gaps for singles and putting away the bad ball.

The only slight wobble for Poynton came when two quick wickets reduced them to 61-3, but Chris Williams (33 from 31 balls) and Stringer (32 not out from 38 balls) came together to swiftly take the game away from Prestbury.
