MP takes to the high seas in race
THE new Conservative MP for Hazel Grove risked a soaking when he took part in the annual Etherow Raft Race.
William Wragg entered ‘Team Wragg’ into the event, held at Etherow Country Park Sailing Club in aid of Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in Stockport.
Pubs, businesses and clubs put together teams to compete on a course taking them round the island and back, with a number of heats culminating in a grand final.
Rik Lumsdon, commodore of the sailing club, said: “We decided to support Beechwood because of the fantastic job they do for cancer patients and their families.
“It’s a really good family day out, not least because there’s always the prospect of the rafts coming apart or capsizing under the stress of the competition.
“I think this was the first time we have had an MP taking part.”
