Navigation and Railway singles’ final fling

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

THE final day of the big Navigation and Railway singles takes place this coming Sunday at 11.30am.

The event should draw a decent crowd down to the pub in Woodley with many top players in the finals. Local hopes hinge with Dave Rigby and Chris Livesey who are both Stockport based players.

The man to beat may be G I Wilson who has just collected first prize in the Wigan Subs event.

The Metro Taxis Nursery sweep went back to Liverpool on Saturday.

John Dalziel staged a comeback in the final to stave off Jack Hargreaves and win 31-26.

Over at Houldsworth WMC The Frank Beeley second heats just about avoided a downpour with the green playing difficult.

In the top half of the draw Jack Hargreaves defeated Dean Higgenbottom and Dave Mee to reach the qualifier.

Jamie Bramley overcame Simon Cawley 21-15 and Colin Lane to join the man from Hyde. In the bottom section Andy Cairns was on fire blitzing his opponents to set up and all Sale qualifier with Neil Grant.

Three Sale Excelsior players were all in the final heats with Grant getting the better of Cairns. Jack Hargreaves levelled up clashes with Bramley to 1-1 for the season to also reach the final day.

Next week will see Dave Walker, Paul Dudley and Billy Speed top the bill at Leamington Road.

Eddie Tasker could do with a few more pairs entering for the Thwaites sponsored West Heaton event. Spaces remain on both August 9th and August 16th at the venue in Heaton Moor.

For more information contact Eddie on 07546 48098 the green and set up cannot be bettered.

In the final games at full county level on Sunday Cheshire and Greater Manchester still had a chance of progressing. Cumbria produced a huge shock though and totally obliterated Greater Manchester and eliminated them.

Cheshire needed to win by over 30 against Derbyshire and also rely on a Cumbrian victory. The whole series of events twisted Cheshire’s way allowing them to book a semi final date with Wales.
