ACONCERT pianist who survived the Tunisia massacre has seen his charity song hit the top of the charts.

David Schofield, 27, recorded Somewhere Over the Rainbow for the Red Cross.

The song, written for the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, was first performed by Judy Garland and became her signature song.

It was also recorded in the 1990s by Eva Cassidy and became a huge hit again.

Now David has recorded a version after being impressed by the work of the Red Cross in the aftermath of the shooting in which 30 British holidaymak­ers were murdered.

The single reached number one in the iTunes classical chart, and was at number five on Tuesday.

David was on holiday with his girlfriend, Nicole Harris, beside the pool of the Royal Kenz hotel when he heard an explosion.

They were just 200 metres from the beach where the shooting started.

David, from Heald Green, and Nicole were evacuated into the hotel lobby and then remained in their room for nine hours. But they managed to get a flight out of Tunisia later that day.

The only reason the couple had not been on the beach was because they had ‘one too many gin and tonics’ the night before and had stayed up later.
