No repairs on my road since 1955, says dad

ADAD has hit out at the council over his dilapidated road saying it has not had a single bit of repair work done in 60 years.

Ken Pimlott, 60, says long-forgotten Bodmin Crescent has been left to fall into disrepair since it was built as part of the new Brinnington estate in the 1950s.

The closest his street has come is when the council altered the kerbs on the pavement.

But even this backfired as thinner stones left a gap to the road, which provides a channel for rainwater leading to flooding.

And crumbling road surfaces is a problem across the Brinnington estate with repairs costing a huge amount of money to bring them up to scratch.

Ken, an HGV driver and dad-of-three, said: “This road has been down 60 years and not had any work done ever, how often have the roads in Bramhall been done in that time.

“We have exactly the same surface as we did in 1955. I’m not sure that can be said about any other road. What am I paying my taxes for? I’m not after the earth I’d just like it resurfacing.

“The roads are cracking up. It is not just my road that is bad, going along some is like being on a roller coaster.”

The problem is being caused because the concrete slabs that were originally laid to put the road surface on are now cracking.

And this means it is the slabs that need replacing not the surface, which is a much more expensive, complicated job.

Councillor Chris Murphy said: “I have raised this with the council several times, they all need relaying.

“It is annoying they are spending all this money (£72m) on the town centre access plan to improve traffic congestion but no money here.

“It has been a problem for at least 12 months. We need a big programme of repairs across Brinnington but it will be expensive and I’m not confident the council will do it.”

A council spokesman said £100m will be spent on road and footway maintenance in Stockport over nine years.

He added: “This funding will carry out a range of repairs in targeted areas. In 2016/17 repairs will take place on some roads and footways in Brinnington.

“The condition of Bodmin Crescent will be assessed as part of the programme. In the interim any significant defects identified will be repaired.”
