THE Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre is the home of big screen and live stage entertainm­ent and in our forthcomin­g attraction­s we have some of the best satellite live and encore screenings beginning on Thursday, July 16, when we screen the National Theatre production of Everyman.

BAFTA winner and Academy Award® nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor - 12 Years a Slave - takes the title role in this dynamic new production of one of English drama’s oldest plays, directed by the National Theatre’s new Director Rufus Norris - Broken, London Road.

Everyman is successful, popular and riding high when Death comes calling. He is forced to abandon the life he has built and embark on a last, frantic search to recruit a friend, anyone, to speak in his defence. But Death is close behind, and time is running out.

If music is your passion, one of the most popular live acts in the world, the ‘King of Waltz’ appears on screen at The Plaza on Tuesday, July 21, when we are proud to present Andre Rieu’s 2015 Maastricht Concert On Screen - Cert. 12A.

This year is the 11th consecutiv­e year of André Rieu’s traditiona­l summer evening concerts, staged on the most romantic city square in The Netherland­s: the Vrijthof in Maastricht. Be prepared for emotions to soar during one of the most extraordin­ary concerts of the year as the maestro puts on a magnificen­t spectacle during this very special annual event.

Along with an RSC Live Screening: The Merchant Of Venice on Wednesday, July 22, and a special presentati­on of The Battles Of Coronel And The Falkland Islands - Cert U - on Friday, July 24, there are big screen presentati­ons for the entire family to enjoy.

Former children’s laureate Dame Jacqueline Wilson is coming to Stockport Plaza later this month to launch her new book.

The event has ben organised by Bramhall bookshop Simply Books, and will give visitors a chance to get their hands on a copy of the book, called Katy, five days before it goes on general release.

The book is inspired by the classic children’s novel What Katy Did – one of the author’s favourite books as a child – bringing the story of Katy Carr, whose life changes dramatical­ly one afternoon, into a contempora­ry setting.

Dame Jacquline’s books have sold over 38 million copies, and her book Hetty Feather is on TV at the moment in an adaptation by CBBC.

She is the Chancellor at the University of Roehampton, where she is also a visiting professor of children’s literature, and hold honorary doctorates from the universiti­es of Bath, Dundee, Kingston and Winchester.
