A FUN day is due to be held at Fernlea Care Home in Hazel Grove on August 17.

The event will be on at the home on Torkington Road between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, and there will be an exotic zoo with armadillos, baby crocodiles, meerkats and skunks.

There will also be a table top sale, and refreshmen­ts will be available.

THE next Friends of our Valley Tea Dance will take place on Saturday, July 25.

The doors open at 5.30pm at the tea rooms in the Roman Lakes Leisure Park for a 6pm start, and live music will be provided by the Jake Leg Jug Band.

Tickets cost £15 including a meal with desert, and people can bring their own alcohol.

Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be for sale.

THE next meeting of Marple Civic Society will take place on Tuesday, July 28 in the upstairs meeting room at Marple Library.

It will feature a talk from Judith Wilshaw entitled ‘The Story of the Peak Forest and Macclesfie­ld Canals’, telling the story of the remarkable early civil engineerin­g projects that led to the developmen­t of the Peak Forest Canal and its later branch of the Macclesfie­ld Canal.

Refreshmen­ts will be served at 3.40pm, and the talk will begin at 4pm.

THE annual Chadkirk Festival and Well Dressing is due to take place on Sunday, July 26.

It will be on between 12 noon and 5pm, and the cost is £2.50 for adults, £1 for children aged five to 15, and under fives go free.

There will be live music, shows, entertainm­ent, demonstrat­ions, refreshmen­ts, stalls and the dressing of St Chad’s Well.
