McDonald leads the field at Houldsworth
HOULDSWORTH ladies played a ‘major’ for the Vice Captain’s Prize and Sheila McDonald was out on her own with 71 from Elizabeth Fallows and Barbara Gibbons, both 75.
Houldsworth’s men played a medal with the top spots going to David Walton 67, David Michael 68 and Nicholas Binns, Mark Merrifield, Paul McCallum and Tom Cook, all 70.
There are two opportunities for the region’s top juniors to show their skills and win great prizes in the coming months.
Two years ago Ringway Golf Club revived the Manchester and District Junior Open, which is also a girls Open and a Daily Telegraph Junior qualifier, with great success and they are looking to build on this with the competition taking place at Ringway on Thursday August 6.

The second competition is the annual Joanne Morley Junior Challenge which takes place on Sunday October 25 at Sale Golf Club and is for boys and girls under the age of 16 on January 1 2015.
The competition has run for 15 years with former professional star and Solheim Cup vice captain Joanne being the host and supports The Golf Foundation.

Houldsworth have charged to the top of the Oldham and District Rabbits League after a big 8-0 home win over Brookdale.
The other results were Dukinfield 5, Oldham 3 and Ashton 4, Stamford 4.
The latest league table is: 1 Houldsworth 27, 2 Ashton 22, 3 Dukinfield 21, 4 Brookdale 17, 5 Stamford 14, 6 Oldham 11.
The MDLGA’s major club team knock out for the Bell Cup is gathering momentum with teams ready to play round three and reach the last eight with the ultimate aim of reaching semi-finals and finals day at Rochdale GC on September 4.
Our local hopes rest with Bramall Park who booked a tie with Knutsford after a 6-1 win over Lowes Park and Heaton Moor who will play Hindley Hall after a 5-2 success at Ellesmere.
Hazel Grove are still in the mix as they play Ringway in round two with the winners playing Prestbury.
