Richards’ knock lifts Hawk high

HAWK Green scored a massive 280-8 batting first against visiting Compstall in Division 1, Pete Richards smashing 136 as D Heginbotha­n took 5-122.

D Bailey and B Heginbotha­m both hit 47 in reply, but 5-84 from J Henderson and 2-3 from Jack Needham on his first XI debut saw Compstall bowled out for 151.

Woodley also struggled batting first as they were bowled out for 83 by visiting Broadbotto­m, Chris Cheetham-Roberts taking 6-23. A Walsh then hit 31 and R Welsh 37 not out as Broadbotto­m cruised to 84-2.

Before play commenced in the Division 2 game at Hazel Grove there was a minute’s silence observed for Chris Fenton, an ex-Hazel Grove junior and senior player who sadly lost his battle with cancer overnight and was a very close friend of many of those playing.

Once play got underway Charleswor­th set off at a blistering rate and were 100-0 in 15 overs, Elliott Morley going on to make 73 and Mudassa Muddy 74 before they were pegged back by Mark Clayton (3-72) and Ian Halford (5-92), eventually finishing on 230-8.

Hazel Grove though were never in the chase as they collapsed to 81 all out, Gaz Evans taking 4-39 and Phil Elliott 4-6.

Chapel scored 175 all out batting first at home to Dove Holes, Stuart Milner with 31 and Jordan Pickering 39 as S Critchlow took 3-45. D Jones then hit 66, Joe Greogory 30 amd M Turner 35 as Dove Holes closed 178-7.

Broadbotto­m hosted Woodley in Division 3 but were soon 74 all out, Dave Hotson taking 6-28.

In the chase S Richards was 34 not out and P Cocks hit 38 as Woodley raced to 75-1.

Dove Holes set visitors Hawk Green 179-8 from their 45 overs, P Johnson with 66 as Brad Holme took 3-51.

Ben Littler then hit 73 and Andy Littler an unbeaten 47 as Hawk Green reached 183-6.

Mottram batted first at home to Newton and scored 219- 9, J Dadge with 33, Sam Fazackerle­y 48 and M Fazackerle­y 33 while J Mercer took 3- 52. For Newton Mark Barnard then made 57 and Andy Turner 90 not out as Newton reached 220- 8 despite 5- 45 from B McGregor.

New Mills posted a massive 253-5 as they entertaine­d Hadfield, Alastair Stevens scoring 93, Usman Ali 43, Khallis Hyde50 and M Ruffell 32 as C Eyre took 4-63.

Eyre was then the only batsman to really struggle the scorers as he made 44, but wickets fell around him to leave Hadfield well short on 145 all out.

In Division 4 Hazel Grove elected to bat as they travelled to Charleswor­th and went on to make a massive 266-8, Andy Oldfiled smashing 131 and Chris Cooke 45 as Steve Marren took 4-50.

D Gilham then hit 63 and Oliver Edge 30 but 4-30 from Andy Rodgers and 4-50 from Joe Hall saw Charleswor­th bowled out for 162.

Chapel slumped to 122 all out as they batted first at Compstall, L Candlin hitting 38 not out and A Hall 35 as Mike Hawkin took 3- 23. Openers Ravi Patel ( 49) and C Abbott ( 58) then made no mistake as Compstall raced to 123 without loss.

Offerton were put in to bat by visiting Buxton and posted 166 all out with F Bokhari scoring 54 and A Thomas 45 while P Bentley took 3-40, Phil Slater 4-35 and R Hawley 3-9.

In reply, A Hawley hit an unbeaten 64 to see Buxton to victory as they closed 169- 7, W Akram taking 3- 38.
