Baggie shines as County go close

- STOCKPORT COUNTY .. 2 BOLTON ............................ 2 SAM BYRNE

COUNTY held a Bolton XI to an entertaining draw at Edgeley Park, with Abs Baggie once again stealing the show.

The new boy struck a superb equaliser for the home side to continue their unbeaten run at Edgeley Park this pre-season (as the Express went to print, County were due to host a Manchester United XI).

In an action-packed 90 minutes, debutant and captain Sean O’Hanlon rose to nod home Joe Garvin’s in-swinging corner just before half-time to give the Hatters the lead, in a half they dominated.

Earlier on in the first 45 minutes, the former Colne man had hit the crossbar direct from a corner, and impressive trialist Ryan Ellison struck the bar and then the post with successive headers.

Wanderers came out firing in the second half and were soon level when Danny Morton hacked down Joe Thomas inside the area, before the striker picked himself up to fire home from the spot.

The Lancashire club weren’t done there, as only four minutes later Rob Holding drilled a superb effort past Danny Hurst from 25 yards.

But on the hour mark, Baggie stepped up to loop a wonderful strike over Harry Campbell and salvage a well-earned draw for Neil Young’s men – his third goal of pre-season.

County felt they had done enough to earn the victory, and new striker Lamin Colley almost claimed it with a late effort on goal parried away by Campbell.
