Groups in the frame for share of £10k cash pot

-

VERNON Building Society has announced the 20 local good causes that will benefit from a share of £10,000 of funding from its Jubilee Fund.

Judges picked the groups from more than 70 entries.

More information about each of these groups will be featured in the Stockport Express next week.

And from August 12 until September 2, we will be publishing tokens for readers to collect so they can vote for the group they would most like to support.

The more tokens a group receives, the more funding they will get.

Tokens can be submitted to the charity or com- munity group directly or dropped in at any of the Vernon’s six local branches.

The Vernon’s chief executive, Mike Hanson, said: “Each year the shortlisting process is really difficult as there are so many worthwhile groups in Stockport helping others and we’re sorry that we can’t help them all.

“We’re pleased with the final 20 groups we have chosen and would urge Stockport Express readers to make their votes count and support a great local cause.”

Last year, Beacon Counselling received the most amount of the pot, with just over £1,000, and there was a special staff award of £500 to Millie’s Trust.

The Vernon Jubilee Fund has been supporting charity and community groups in the Stockport area since 2012, with over £30,000 of funding awarded since then.

Full terms and conditions are available on the Vernon’s website.
