DRYER BLAZE

-

A NEIGHBOUR tried to break into a burning home after fire engulfed a kitchen.

The blaze, at a house on Adcroft Street, Stockport, on Wednesday afternoon, began when a tumble dryer was left on and overheated.

The man who owned the house had gone out. But his neighbour feared he was inside and broke the door down only to be beaten back by smoke and flames.

Firefighters from King Street, Whitehill and Offerton stations were called.

They used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put the blaze out. The kitchen was destroyed and the rest of the house severely smoke damaged.

Steve Bullock, watch manager at King Street station, said: “We advise people that if they are going out to make sure they turn off all electrical appliances.”
