Move on fly-tipping
ENVIRONMENT officers will no longer investigate fly-tipping if it is a ‘one-off’ incident.
The Central area committee heard waste would still be cleared but unless it is repeated no further action taken.
Ian O’Donnell, a council environment boss, said investigating would mean the rubbish would be left longer and that it is rare that any sifting through dumped waste leads to evidence being found of who is responsible.
He said: “Where there are one-off incidents of fly-tipping we wouldn’t start off on the premise we would investigate these matters, we would just clear it. What was happening was while we were going through bags it would mean the bags were there longer. In most cases there was no information that would lead to further action.”
