Tributes to crash tragedy teenager

MOURNERS gathered to pay their respects to a teenage girl killed in a latenight road smash.

Ayesha Rahman, 19, died following the incident on the junction of Delamere Road and Gatley Road in Gatley last month.

The former Kingsway School pupil, who was on foot, suffered serious head injuries in the accident.

On Thursday, friends and family gathered at the nearby Walter Stansby Memorial Park to pay their respects to Ayesha.

Candles and flowers were put out around the park as mourners said prayers and took part in a two-minute silence. Cheadle and Gatley councillor and deputy leader of Stockport council, Iain Roberts, said: “Those who knew Ayesha, who had been touched by her life, and those who did not. People of all faiths and of none.

“As the light of the day drained away, we gathered together to mourn the loss of a 19-year-old woman taken from us when her whole life lay ahead of her.

“We would like to wish Ayesha’s family our heartfelt condolence­s.”

Police arrested a man, 32, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst under the influence of drugs. He has been bailed until
