COUNTY BUY IS A GOOD DEAL

IT is no surprise that MD Cawley has ‘got stung’ if he insists on writing letters which totally ignore the facts.

Edgeley Park is to be purchased with a mortgage – the repayments of which are entirely covered by the rent to be paid by Stockport County.

The council is therefore acquiring a valuable asset at no cost, which is a very good investment decision, and makes nonsense of Mr Cawley’s claim that it is depriving good causes of funds.

Had he actually bothered to read the details published in the Express, he would have known this.

He suggests that only 2,634 people benefit. Come off it. What about the money which flows into the local economy on match days? £1.7m over a season I think was the figure quoted. Also, don’t forget the considerable work the football club does in the local community, and with local schools.

Perhaps Mr Cawley should make sure of his facts before putting pen to paper, then he might not end up looking so very foolish. AJP Bebbington FCA
