Disability triathlon will be a first

-

SEASHELL Trust is holding its inaugural disability triathlon and all-ability 5km race on September 13.

The triathlon will be open to athletes with disabilities from across the north west.

Tri-Seashell competitors will swim, bike and run distances according to their ability or complete it as part of a relay team.

Maureen Wilkins, from the Cheadle Hulme charity, was inspired to set up the event after a number of students competed in the Sefton Triathlon.

She said: “It will be an amazing opportunity for athletes to participate in a fully inclusive event for people with learning and/ or multi-sensory impairments.

“Guest speaker Katie Toft will open the event. Katie has cerebral palsy and up until two years ago was unable to ride a bike. She now represents GB in triathlon.”

A 5km multi-terrain race open to all abilities will be run alongside.

The event takes place from 11am at Seashell Trust’s Stanley Road campus. To book contact Maureen Wilkins on 0161 610 0100 or maureen. wilkins@seashelltrust.org. uk. Entry is £10/triathlon and £5/5km with minimum age of 11. Closing date is Sunday, September 6.
