A big drop for brave ‘Little Joan’

-

JOAN Donald may only be small but she is facing a big challenge as she takes the plunge for two charities close to her heart.

Joan, 68, from Romiley is nicknamed ‘ Little Joan’ and describes herself as standing at ‘ four foot, eight inches and a bit tall’.

On August 23 she will do a skydive from more than 10,000ft to raise cash for St Ann’s Hospice, where she volunteers once a week in the Romiley charity shop, and Prostate Cancer UK in memory of her husband Joe, who died 11 years ago.

The tandem parachute jump over Cumbria is far more energetic than her usual pastime of knitting, but her son Peter persuaded her to take the plunge.

Joan, who spent 23 years working as a dinner lady at Bredbury Green Primary School, said: “Peter said a 90-year-old had done a skydive so I thought if someone of that age can do it so can I.

“I’ve always done safe things but thought it’s about time I started to live, though I’m frightened of jumping out a plane.”

To sponsor Joan pick up a form at the St Ann’s charity shop on Compstall Road.
