Biker conquers iconic road race
A BIKER overcame illmess and engine problems to complete one of the world’s toughest and most prestigious road races.
Tim Sayers, from Heald Green, finished in 33rd place from a field of 70 competitors in the lightweight category at this year’s Isle of Man TT Road Races.
Thousands of spectators watched the 38-year-old clock up an average lap speed of 106 mph, just shy of his target of 110 mph.
And, despite missing out on the top-30 place he had set his sights on, Tim was happy to complete the event which sees many racers fail to finish every year.
He said: “Illness plus engine trouble is a pretty nightmarish combination, so I’m delighted to have managed to complete the race, let alone finish in a solid position.
“The atmosphere at the Isle of Man TT is incomparable, and to be able to compete with the best racers in the world is a complete privilege. It’s definitely a tale to tell!”
Tim missed out on the 2014 event due to financial constraints, but sponsorship from Manchester-based recruitment agency Instinct Resourcing, enabled him to take part in this year’s competition.
Director Mike Ward said: “Watching Tim racing was incredible. Having witnessed it with my own eyes, I now realise the serious levels of courage and dedication it takes to compete in the Isle of Man TT.”
