Iddon angry with ‘rubbish’ display
CHRISTIAN Iddon’s rollercoaster season continued, as a “rubbish” weekend at Thruxton left the British Superbike rider with work to do.
Iddon started the weekend well, finishing the first free practice session of the weekend in second place behind the multiple BSB Champion, Shane Byrne. But tyre wear around the notoriously abrasive Hampshire track was a notable concern for Iddon and his Tyco BMW team.
As they looked for a solution Christian, from Stockport, tumbled down the time sheets, during the subsequent free practice sessions.
With the same form translating in to qualifying, Iddon placed himself 14th on the grid.
A red flag in Race 1 brought the bikes back for a restart, and eventually play got back underway, over a reduced distance, but Iddon, who had run as high as 13th, fell back to finish 21st through severe tyre degradation.
Iddon started Race 2 in 18th and climbed up the order as high as a respectable 10th. But with tyre wear rearing its ugly head once more, the former Supermoto Champion slipped back down the order, finishing 13th.
“Rubbish weekend” remarked a disappointed Iddon, “I was so looking forward to Thruxton, I love the place”.
Christian is in seventh place in the overall Championship standings as the BSB Series moves on to Brands Hatch on August 5-7.
