APOPULAR burger restaurant is to open a new branch in Stockport.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen has agreed a deal to open in the town’s new leisure development, Redrock Stockport.

The firm is the latest restaurant chain to sign on to the development, which is currently under construction in Stockport town centre, close to the M60.

Popular restaurants Pizza Express and Zizzi have already signed up to be part of the new £45 million development, alongside The Light Cinema.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen was founded in 2001 and now has more than 70 branches across the country and is well known for its handmade burgers.

Work at Redrock meanwhile is now well underway and is scheduled to open as expected in 2017.

More than half of its units have now been let.

Councillor Kate Butler said: “I am delighted to welcome Gourmet Burger Kitchen to Stockport.

“Their decision to join us at Redrock is a real boost for the town and its growing food offer. Redrock will be a great addition to our town centre and its popularity with restaurant operators shows the opportunities this will offer for businesses and residents. I look forward to welcoming GBK in person when they open in 2017.” ●●Gourmet Burger is opening in Stockport

Andrew Reavley of letting agents Lunson Mitchenall added: “GBK takes the development to around 60 per cent pre-let and the quality of tenant line up is testimony to the trading potential of the scheme.

“We are in active discussions with further occupiers on the small number of remaining units”.

Redrock is part of a £1 billion ‘Investing in Stockport’ programme that is underway in Stockport, which is intended to transform the town and build on the many strengths of the borough.

Stockport Council says it is aiming to create a ‘must visit’ destination and bring a new vibrancy to the town.

GVA and Lunson Mitchenall are appointed as agents for Redrock Stockport.

Work began on the 75,000 sq ft leisure, retail and restaurant scheme, which also includes a 360 space multi storey car park, earlier this year.
