Russian State Ballet deliver an emotional lift

- STOCKPORT PLAZA

THE highly-acclaimed Russian State Ballet and Opera House returns to The Plaza on Tuesday, October 11, with Swan Lake.

The story is woven around two girls, Odette and Odile, who resemble each other so closely they can easily be mistaken for the other.

Prince Siegfried immediately falls in love with the princess Odette (a swan by day but a young lady at night after a magic spell was put upon her). Odette can only be saved by a man who declares her as his first and only love. Once this promise is made, she can be set free.

The prince promises his eternal love to Odette but he is tricked by Von Rothbart, who casts a spell to make him fall in love with his daughter, Princess Odile (also known as the Black Swan), who closely resembles his love Princess Odette.

Under a spell and mesmerised by her beauty, the prince forgets Odette and promises his love to Odile.

From the impressive splendour of the palace ballroom to the moonlit lake where swans glide in perfect formation, this compelling tale of tragic romance has it all.

Swan Lake is arguably one of the most loved and challenging ballets, not least thanks to Tchaikovsky’s instantly recognisable and timeless score, but also the great ‘Pas de Deux’, ‘Pas de Quatre’ and iconic ‘Danse des Petits Cygnes.’

Swan Lake captures the full range of human emotions.
