Romiley Little Theatre suits up for 70th birthday celebrations

-

ROMILEY Little Theatre is celebrating the start of its 70th anniversary season with the acclaimed play One Man Two Guvnors – starring a very special suit.

The National Theatre in London has loaned the amateur dramatics company the original suit worn by award-winning actor James Corden when he starred in the show.

The play will be on at the Hyde Festival Theatre from Thursday, October 13 until Saturday, October 16 and Shaun Penton takes on the role of Francis Henshall originally played by Corden.

Shaun has been acting and singing in plays and musicals since the age of 13, and first appeared for Romiley Little Theatre in 2008 in a production of One Big Blow.

One Man Two Guvnors is an English adaptation by Richard Bean of The Servant of Two Masters, the 1743 play by Venetian playwright Carlo Goldoni.

It opened at the National Theatre in April 2011 before going on to tour the UK and play in the West End and on Broadway.

It tells the story of Francis Hensall, who starts to work for two crooks with an unusual connection to each other – in order to prevent discovery he must keep them apart.

Peter Wright, director of the Romiley Little Theatre production, said: “It’s a real privilege for the cast and crew to be able to loan the original suit worn by James Corden in the 2011 revival of the play.

“One Man Two Guvnors was such a phenomenal success around the world we can’t wait to bring it to the Hyde Festival Theatre.

“Tickets are selling out quickly so advance booking is advisable.”
