Fylde way is just not football

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

I COULD fill this column; I could probably fill this page, on my thoughts regarding last Tuesday’s game against AFC Fylde.

The continued assaults on Danny Lloyd. The pathetic excuse of a referee. The “challenge” on Scott Duxbury that went unpunished. The behaviour of the visiting directors. The list goes on, my overriding thought on leaving EP was that if that’s what professional means, win by any means, fair or foul, if that’s what you have to become just to win a game of football, then you can keep it.

Mr Haythornthwaite can take his poor excuse of a football club as far as he likes but with no fanbase I just hope it all comes crumbling down around his vastly inflated head.

Give me a team that plays “FOOTBALL” any day of the week, during that game we saw a County side play some lovely football and if it hadn’t have been for a silly foul that we gave away then we’d have taken a well deserved and well fought for point.

The players should have been proud of themselves; The Cheadle End was.

Saturday brought Salford to EP, the first game in our double header. Jim had a great run in last season’s cup and I’m sure he’d like to go one better this time round but the Ammies are a decent side and posed a real threat so Jim jiggled the team (due to Scott’s absence) and we all witnessed, possibly, the best performance of the season so far.

Danny Lloyd won and then scored a penalty in the first half and then in the second he curled a great free kick into the danger area where Michael Clarke’s toe steered the ball past a hapless keeper. Salford could have given up then but they raised their game.

At the back Hinchcliffe, Minihan, Ross, Smalley and Clarke were excellent for County and as the visitors pushed forward they left gaping holes at the back that allowed Josh Amis, Craig Carney, John Marsden and Courtney Meppen-Walters to all have decent chances.

Finishing maybe something to work on in training, on another day those missed chances might need to be put away. Saturday sees a repeat fixture, the same score and just as importantly, the same performance would be brilliant.
