Referee’s comments leave Gannon furious

-

COUNTY manager Jim Gannon was left furious with the referee after his side’s 2-1 defeat to AFC Fylde last week.

The Hatters were narrowly beaten in the game, with a goal from Danny Rowe in the seventh minute of stoppage time enough to earn Fylde the win at Edgeley Park.

While Gannon disagreed with a few of the decisions from the officials, it was something that the referee said to the County boss at half-time that particularly infuriated him.

“Based upon the comments that the referee said to me at half-time, I will be reporting him,” said Gannon.

“We don’t get a chance to have dialogue and nobody ever asks our opinion, so whatever comments I need to make about his performance and what he said to me will be put in an official report.

“I’ve been told that referees are under pressure not to book people early, and we saw that when their right back made a bad challenge on Danny Lloyd and didn’t get booked.

“Generally too many referees allow the first bad challenge to go unpunished in a game, especially if it’s early on.”

Another talking point to come from the game occurred when Stockport’s Scott Duxbury was stretchered off and taken to hospital after being knocked out during the second half of the game.

Duxbury reportedly suffered a fracture to the side of his left eye, but the 21-year-old was allowed to return home at 6.30am on Wednesday morning and is now recuperating.
