Final plans submitted for new £45m Seashell Trust campus
FURTHER details have been revealed for ambitious plans to redevelop the Seashell Trust School.
Initial plans for the £45m campus on Stanley Road, Cheadle, were submitted back in February.
The trust have now put forward additional documents including a financial statement and additional layout, transport and landscape plans.
The new school will boast a therapy suite and swimming pool, extension to the existing college, family assessment units, family support services, a sports hall and pavilion as well as a new main entrance drive, reception and car parking.
The development will also see the creation of 325 new homes on land owned by the Trust between Wilmslow Road and the A34 at Heald Green.
Principal and CEO Mark Geraghty said: “This is a vital application for the future of the school and our very special children and we understand that we need to demonstrate a strong case for the application.
“We have worked very hard over the past nine months to provide the planning authority with all the detail to allow them to make a fully informed decision. There really is no Plan B. We need this scheme to guarantee the future of Seashell Trust.”
The plans have attracted opposition from some neighbouring residents angry at the prospect of losing green belt land to housing.
A spokesman from the Save Heald Green Green Belt Facebook group said: “Stockport Council wrote in a letter to the Trust that they are ‘not convinced that the proposed school and campus redevelopment is completely necessary, as opposed to being desirable.’ We agree.
“While we are opposed to the complete £45m campus redevelopment, we fully support the building of Seashell’s new school at a fraction of this cost, obviating the need to sell the green belt land to property developers.”
