Seasonal celebrations are starting in Brinnington
THERE will be festive fun - complete with upside down Christmas trees - at Brinnington Community Centre.
The centre, on Hereford Road, is inviting people to its over 60s Christmas Party, which takes place on December 10 from 1pm to 4pm.
A buffet will be served at the free event and there will also be bingo and a live singer.
Volunteers at the centre have already decorated it for the festive season with one large standard tree and then several others that are hung upside down from the ceiling.
Maureen Dalton, one of the volunteers, said: “They are designed that way. There’s a Christmas shop in Blackpool that’s open all year round.
“A member of one of our groups saw them and really wanted us to get them. The trees are a bit of a novelty.”
The Christmas party is an event held every year at the centre.
Jean Adcock, one of the regular guests, said: “Anyone who doesn’t come doesn’t know what they are missing.
“It’s always a fantastic do at Brinnington Community Centre.”
There are plenty of other seasonal celebrations in Brinnington during the run up to Christmas.
The centre held its Christmas fair on Saturday and there will be a Christmas Market held at First House Plaza on Saturday from 11am to 5pm with a variety of stalls and a visit from Santa.
St Luke’s Church, on Northumberland Road, will hold its Christmas fair in the parish hall on December 10.
It takes place from 11am to 1.30pm and attractions include toys, games, cakes, stalls, cakes, a tombola and a raffle. Entry is free.
