Lambs let off but revenge over BPA

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

AFTER last weekend’s defeat to Bradford PA in the league there was some concern on the fingerpost flyer that Tuesday night’s opponents, Tamworth, the division’s form side, could be a tough fixture.

They certainly were tough in the physical department (what would you expect from a team managed by Andy Morrell) but not in the football sense of the word.

The fact that they managed a 2-2 draw was largely down to the referee turning a blind eye to any fouls committed by the Lambs.

In the lead up to their second, Danny Lloyd looked to have been kicked in the face, while Michael Clarke was “taken out” by a foul so late that to my mind the home side should have been down to 10 men.

However, neither player was so much as booked and in the case of the latter the ref ordered a contested dropped ball just outside our penalty area, even though the ball had been played out for a throw in deep in Tamworth’s half of the pitch.

We took the point that most of us would have been happy with at 7.45pm but yet again we seem to be victims to ineptitude.

Saturday brought Bradford PA back to EP for the second meeting in successive weekends, this time for the FA Trophy and hopefully for a little revenge for us!

It was good to see Sam Minihan and John Marsden back in the starting line up, they’re both good, combative players and you know that you’re going to get a solid 90 minute performance from them both and as it turned out a goal from each, better was the fact that Scott Duxbury looks to be back from his enforced lay off.

The game started and to be honest it looked like both teams were doing their best not to win, every player in mid-field just passed the ball to the opposition for 20 minutes.

Neither Danny Lloyd or Kaine Felix managed to make any headway with both sets of defenders seemed to be enjoying a game of head tennis, that is until the half hour mark when to game came alive when Danny crossed for Sam to toe poke the ball home.

From then on it was action at both ends.

They hit the post, missed a sitter from yards out.

John Marsden doubled our lead, moments after Jimmy Ball missed a glorious chance and then to cap it all Scott Duxbury runs the length of the pitch only to hit the post and send the faithful home content and dreaming of another home draw in the next round!
