Catherine plays her card right to win Christmas competition
AN ADSWOOD schoolgirl and her family got the VIP treatment after she was named winner of a Christmas card competition.
Catherine Wilson, who is in year five at Adswood Primary, on Garners Lane, triumphed in her bid to create a card for council leader Alex Ganotis.
Her design depicted a snow-covered Stockport Viaduct with children and a person in a wheelchair enjoying the winter weather.
Entrants were tasked with creating a picture that reflected the borough’s ‘community spirit and inclusive nature’.
Councillor Ganotis chose his top three, which were then voted on by the borough’s 63 councillors.
As the winner Catherine and her family joined the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport, Councillor Chris Gordon and Dr Margaret Gordon, for tea.
She was then presented with a framed copy of her winning design before the evening’s full council meeting.
Coun Ganotis said: “I would like to thank everyone who participated in the competition this year.
“The standard of the entries were excellent, making it very difficult for me to choose my favourite top three.
“Catherine’s drawing is a great overall choice because it combines a Stockport landmark with our local community spirit to make an excellent electronic card.”
