Santa catches the bus for festive charity drive

-

A FLEET of Santas have swapped their reindeer and sleighs for a more conventional form of transport... double decker buses.

The big man in red has been so busy this year that he’s recruited a team of bus drivers to help him spread some festive cheer.

Dozens of Stagecoach Manchester drivers will be moonlighting as Father Christmas across Greater Manchester over the season. Passengers are in with a chance of spotting Santa on some of the company’s busiest services.

And the cheerful drivers will be collecting money for charity as they help passengers and commuters get into the festive spirit.

Drivers from the Stockport, Ashton, Sharston, Middleton, Hyde Road and Wigan depots will be collecting on various buses across the region. They will be wearing the red Father Christmas suit, hat and a fluffy white beard while operating their services in the run up to Christmas.

All donations will go to Stagecoach Manchester’s charity of the year, Prevent Breast Cancer. The charity carries out research into the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, which affects more than 50,000 people a year.

Stagecoach Manchester managing director Elisabeth Tasker said: “Our drivers are more than happy to help spread festive cheer, while our passengers always give generously and the younger children in particular enjoy seeing Santa driving their bus.

“Hopefully we will help to put a smile on people’s faces in the run up to Christmas and we’d like to thank passengers for their generosity when we collect for charity, not just in December, but throughout the year.”
