CORONATION Street star Sally Dynevor performed this year’s lights switch on at Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in front of a crowd of supporters.

The annual Festival of Lights was held in the garden at the centre, where new CEO of Beechwood, Ian Hodge, welcomed everyone.

He said: “It has been a difficult year for Beechwood and I would like to thank everyone for their continued support.”

Actress Sally, who is best known for her role as Sally Webster, is a patron of Beechwood, and was delighted to be asked to perform the light switch on.

The soap star added: “Beechwood means a lot to me, it is a very special place, providing wonderful support. I feel so proud to be a patron. I hope everyone has a very Happy Christmas.”

The tree was blessed by Reverend Richard Lawry before Sally asked the gathering to join in with a countdown before the lights were switched on. The crowd also enjoyed music from Stockport Silver Band and carol singing, along with a special visit from Father Christmas.

Fundraising manager Angela Gray said: “The evening is always very special. It is lovely to see so many of our supporters come together to enjoy singing carols and think of special people in their lives at this time of year.”

Candle bags with messages surrounded the ‘Tree of Lights’, as a dedication for someone special or in memory of a loved one no longer here.

All names were recorded on Beechwood’s Scroll of Honour and displayed in the centre, as well as being read out in the Christmas Carol and Dedication Service at St Mary’s in the Market Place, Stockport on Monday, December 12, where there was also music from Affinity and Beechwood choirs.
