Coma crash man ‘recovering’

-

A MAN who was involved in a collision with a car and then dragged 60 metres along a high street on Boxing Day has awoken from his coma and is ‘on the mend,’ according to his family.

The 41-year-old victim can now be named as Colin Bowler, and his grateful family have thanked people for their ‘love and support’ following the incident on Cheadle’s High Street.

Colin, who lives in Stockport, was left with serious head, leg, back and chest injuries after he was in collision with a Mercedes at around 7.50pm.

He woke from a coma on Wednesday (December 28) at Wythenshawe Hospital and was described as still being in a ‘serious condition.’

A close member of his family said he faces another round of surgery on a badly injured leg, but is confident he will make a good recovery.

City fan Colin is awake and talking to his family – and has thanked people for their support. However he faces several weeks – possibly months – of further hospital treatment.

The family member said: “He’s going to make it. He’s come out of the coma.

“He has a bad leg injury and his back is bad, it was badly damaged.

“He needs more surgery on his leg.

“I appreciate everyone’s love and concern - and so does Colin.”

Colin had been watching City play Hull at the George and Dragon pub and had left the premises, walking on High Street when he was involved in the crash.

A man has now appeared in court in connection with the incident.

Marc Anthony Dightam, 32, of Turves Road, Cheadle Hulme, appeared at Stockport Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder on Thursday (December 29). He spoke only to confirm his name and address and did not enter a plea.

The case was committed to Manchester Crown Court on Thursday, January 26. Bail was denied and he was remanded into custody.
