ASHELTER at a bus stop that was destroyed in an accident has not been replaced after three months - because Transport for Greater Manchester’s suppliers have run out.

The shelter, on the corner of St Lesmo Road and Edgeley Road, Edgeley, by an elderly people’s home, was badly damaged by a road crash in early October.

What was left was then removed.

After a month of inaction councillors in the area made enquiries and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said it would be done for Christmas.

But it is still not done ●●Coun Harding at the shelterless bus stop and now TfGM say it will be ‘early this year’ as shelters are currently out of stock at suppliers JC Decaux.

Councillor Philip Harding said: “For it to be three months at the very least is disgusting, it is on a well used route that is a main road.

“It is near St Lesmo Court, which has a lot of elderly residents who are not necessarily able to stand.

“This is also now the worst part of the year weather-wise.

“You would think that a company like JC Decaux would have shelters on tap, they are always getting smashed or knocked over so will need replacing.

“But it looks like the company has run out of them.”

TfGM are currently unsure as to when a shelter may become available and will contact the supplier to get an idea of the timescale.

In an e-mailed letter in December Charlotte Beal, customer engagement officer, confirmed the delay to Coun Harding.

She said: “We have received an update from JC Decaux to advise us that due to low stocking levels, there has been a delay in the delivery of the shelter.

“In light of this, unfortunately installation of the shelter has had to be postponed until early next year.

“TfGM appreciate this has gone over the previously agreed timescale and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

“I can assure you that work to replace the shelter will commence as soon as possible and our route equipment team have arranged to contact JCDecaux on January 4, 2017, to request an update.”

JC Decaux was contacted for comment and so far has yet to respond.
