Jim looking at replacements

- SHELDAN KEAY

COUNTY manager Jim Gannon hopes to sign a new player in January to fill the void being left by some of his departing squad.

Gary Stopforth is set to leave County later this month for a new opportunity that is being presented to him in Australia, while Kaine Felix’s loan spell at Edgeley Park is also due to come to an end.

Stopforth has impressed for Stockport this season after joining from Salford City at the start of the campaign, regularly being a part of the starting 11.

Felix has also been lively for Gannon’s men since arriving on a temporarily basis from National League team York City back in November.

The imminent departures of both men is leaving the Hatters limited in some areas, and Gannon admits he wants to bring in a new addition to try and combat that problem.

“We’re looking in the market for players that might be available but we are also conscious that we have good players already in the group,” he told the club’s official website.

“I would like to maybe strengthen with one player because we don’t want to lose both Gary Stopforth and Kaine Felix and then be down to only 17 fit players, plus clubs like Halifax and Salford are probably going to add to their team and stay strong.”

While Gannon does plan on making a new signing, he is also going to mix things up in training with his current squad to see whether any of his team can offer a different role.

“We do have good players in the group that could fill in those areas, like Courtney Meppen-Walter and Jimmy Ball, plus Max Cartwright and Ryan Ellison are out on loan, and while they may not come into the starting 11, they could help to strengthen the match day squad of 16,” he said.

“I’m going to experiment with one or two things in training or the Cheshire Senior Cup that may help us get the best out of the group that we have over the coming weeks to see what we can do.”
