Hero security guards help save woman

-

A PAIR of heroic security guards saved a woman’s life after she tried to throw herself off a bridge.

Stepping Hill Hospital guards Ali Jallow and Andy Tobin were working their shift at the hospital’s busy A&E when they noticed a woman in a distressed state leaving the department.

Concerned for her welfare, Ali and Andy followed her and tried to convince her to return.

The woman made her way to Bramhall Moor Lane bridge, and then attempted to throw herself onto train tracks below.

A fight to save her life took place, with the woman attacking the security guards and landing several harsh blows, as she was a trained kick-boxer.

Eventually they managed to grab the woman’s arms and legs to prevent her jumping, and took her back to the safety of the hospital.

Ali and Andy have now been nominated for the Unsung Heroes Award run by GoToJobBoard, a health careers website company, and will attend a ceremony with other nominees in Manchester.

The awards are for non-nursing and medical NHS staff, such as porters, cleaners, receptionists and security guards who have gone the extra mile to help patients and public.

Ann Barnes, chief executive of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Stepping Hill said: “Ali and Andy are real heroes who showed courage and compassion in doing their utmost to save this young woman’s life.

“They are an absolute credit to our organisation, their colleagues and their families.”
