TWO new hotels have been officially launched in Stockport town centre in the last two weeks.

Travelodge opened in Regent House on Friday, January 6, as the chain celebrated 30 years of operation in the Greater Manchester area.

The 86-room hotel with Bar Cafe represents a £5 million investment and has created 30 new jobs for the area.

A champagne reception was held to celebrate the launch, which was attended by the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Chris Gordon, and Travelodge development director Tony O’Brien.

Mr O’Brien said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our 30th anniversary of trading in Greater Manchester by opening our first hotel in Stockport in landmark building Regent House.”

Councillor Gordon added: “I appreciate the positive statement of trust in the renewal of the town centre by this major investment by a respected national company, which will greatly contribute to the economy of the borough.”

Travelodge district manager Lisa Readett said the hotel had got off to a ‘flying start,’ and has been booked out during the week and at the weekends.

Meanwhile on Thursday (January 12) the opening of the new 115-bedroom Holiday Inn Express next to the train station – part of the Stockport Exchange development – took place.

Guests from the business community, operators Interstate, the council and Muse Developments attended.

Council leader Alex Ganotis cut the ribbon on the new hotel. He said: “The opening of the hotel marks a huge step forward for Stockport as it seeks to become one of the north west’s most successful boroughs.

“It shows that Stockport is genuinely open for business and ambitious about its future.”

Stockport Exchange is part of a £1 billion programme, Investing in Stockport, currently taking place across the borough.

Carl Butterworth, general manager at the Holiday Inn Express Stockport, said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase this hotel and get to know some of the local businesses in the area.

“Guests gave very positive feedback of the hotel overall and we are looking forward to being part of Stockport’s vision for the future.”
