Man held on death

A 69-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after an 80-year-old pensioner died in a suspected hit-and-run.

Ian Whitworth died after being struck by a car on Turves Road in Cheadle Hulme, shortly after 10pm on Friday.

The car did not stop at the scene and detectives launched an appeal to help trace the driver.

GMP confirmed they have arrested a man in connection with the incident.
