Lowry work on art trail
AN art trail of Stockport including work by LS Lowry begins this month.
The Picture Stockport project ask locals to vote for their favourite works of the borough from a selection of 22 contributions.
Held in partnership with Manchester Histories, the works of art will be displayed around venues and in shop windows.
The art, which includes contributions from award-winning painter Jackie Wagg and graphic artist Eamonn Murphey, will bring to life both known and hidden pieces depicting Stockport.
People will then vote for their favourites and the eight most popular pictures will be reimagined by Stockport residents with the help of professional artists, through a series of workshops.
Councillor Kate Butler said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for Stockport residents and visitors to get to know the fantastic work of our local artists. These artworks celebrate our town and heritage and I’d encourage everyone to take part and vote for their favourite.”
Voting has started and will be open until February 12 either online at picturestockport.com or in person at the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery and libraries.
You can also download the picture trail online or by collecting a leaflet from the gallery, Central Library or Staircase House.
