Bradley finds success with a traineeship
A BOY who left school struggling with English and maths has found success after completing a traineeship.
Bradley Kay, from Woodley, left school in 2016 without the grades he had hoped for.
He started looking for an apprenticeship in mechanics but became down hearted before contacting Qube Learning.
They recommended he try a traineeship while studying with one of their tutors to boost his English and maths grades.
Traineeships provide young people with relevant work experience for their chosen career path alongside developing skills they may not already have.
Curtis Autos, on Harrison Street, were keen to take Bradley on as a trainee after Qube Learning contacted them, and have an excellent track-record of training young people.
Owner Craig Curtis said: “Since day one Bradley has been fantastic, often turning up to the garage early and showing a real willingness to learn and develop new skills.
“We are so impressed with him, and his work is easily comparable to that of our full-time mechanics.”
After his success on the traineeship, Bradley has been offered an apprenticeship at the garage.
He said: “After leaving school and being unsuccessful in finding an apprenticeship, I was very downbeat about the opportunities available.
“Thanks to the support of Qube Learning, I was able to complete a traineeship that I enjoyed every minute of and I am really proud to be starting my apprenticeship at the garage.”
Traineeships are also a great opportunity for employers to teach young people while receiving support from training providers.
Paul Taylor from Qube Learning, said: “It was tough for Bradley when he finished school, he hadn’t achieved the functional skills results he hoped for and lacked experience.
“We thought a traineeship would be a great option, and were very pleased to pair him up with Curtis Autos Garage.
“We provided support throughout his traineeship, which saw him develop his life skills as well as get on-the-job training.”
