GP to star in bowel cancer ad on TV

-

A CHEADLE GP will star in a bowel cancer awareness advert on TV.

Dr Stephen Gaduzo, from Cheadle Medical Practice, is fronting the Be Clear on Cancer campaign, aimed at encouraging 60-74 year olds to get screened for bowel cancer.

The 53-year-old GP said: “I was delighted to get involved in this campaign. If my patients feel apprehensive about completing the bowel screening test, I remind them it’s simple to do, it can detect cancer early and you have the benefit of completing it in the comfort of your home. And it really does save lives.”

People within this age bracket who are registered with a GP will receive an NHS bowel cancer screening kit through the post every two years. The test can be done at home and is designed to detect early signs of bowel cancer.

Every year, 2000 people in this age bracket are diagnosed with bowel cancer in the north west.

Fiona Osgun, of Cancer Research UK, said: “Even if the kit does show something out of the ordinary, it doesn’t mean it will turn out to be cancer.

“But if it is cancer, catching it at an early stage means it is easier to treat successfully.”
