Chef to cook up a storm at schools comp

-

A COOK is hoping to be top of the class as she competes for the title of School Chef of the Year.

Kim Edgar, from St Philip’s Primary, in Offerton, is one of six finalists for the 2017 instalment of the north west competition.

She will have 90 minutes to prepare a main course and pudding to impress judges.

Her dishes are cheerio chicken in flatbread with home made salsa, cheese and salad and toffee apple cake with cream.

Judges will not only look at taste but creative use of products, working practices and ability to replicate the recipe.

Kim, who works for Solutions SK, will represent the region in the national finals if she wins this week at Cheshire Cookery School, in Altrincham.

She said: “I’m over the moon about being in the regional finals.

“The Solutions SK team approached me and asked if I’d be interested in entering the competition. It was such an exciting opportunity and I felt ready for the challenge.

“It’s so exciting to have got this far and I can’t wait for the finals.”

Kim began working for the Solutions SK school meal team in 2004.

Sharon Alldread, from the organisation, said: “We are so excited for Kim. This is a great achievement for Solutions SK and shows that the service we provide to schools, is one of the best in the north west.”

Other finalists are from Tameside, Warrington, Southport, Manchester and Morecambe.

A spokesman for competition organisers the Lead Association for Catering in Education said: “The line up of dishes on this year’s contestants’ menus is not only impressive but also demonstrates the exceptional culinary expertise of today’s school chefs.

“Ingredients, flavours and adventurous themes have been drawn from exotic locations right across the globe.”
