Cheadle and Gatley toast 40th birthday

CHEADLE and Gatley JFC turns 40-years-old this year, and boasts an impressive history of developing young footballin­g talent.

Founded in 1977, the club now consists of 29 girls and boys team across 12 age groups from the under-7’s to the under-18’s.

Among those who have progressed from Cheadle and Gatley JFC is current Reading captain George Evans, a junior at the club from the age of six.

He became only the second player to represent Manchester City through every age-group from the under-8’s to the first team and made his City debut in a 4-1 League Cup victory over Sunderland.

Following a loan spell at Walsall, Evans signed a three-year deal with Championsh­ip side Reading in January 2016.

Another player who went on to play in the Manchester City academy is George Glendon, who has represente­d England at under-16 and under-17 levels.

The 21-year-old recently signed a permanent deal at League One side Fleetwood Town
