Fixture list is heavily hit by weather

- LANCASHIRE AND CHESHIRE LEAGUE

POOR weather prior to the match day saw the bulk of the games postponed through the divisions but it did not prevent Premier division leaders Whalley Rnage extending their lead at the top with a comfortable 8-4 derby win over Bedians.

They are now four points clear of nonplaying Mellor who have two vital games in hand.

A close game between High Lane and Newton end with a 3-1 win for the home team as Newton, who dominated for most of the game were made to regret several missed chances.

Abacus Media moved into fourth place in the table but were given a good contest before beating Moston Brook 4-2.

In division one there was an upset for leaders Signol Athletic at a slippery Flixton Park as they went down 4-3 to an in-form Old Stretfordians.

Strets coped with the conditions better in the first half and were 3-10 to the good by the break.

Signol improved after the break and levelled with a brace from Scott Noz being backed by an exceptional volley form 30 yards from Alex Jones.

But Strets were back in front within a minute and after both teams had failed to convert penalties Strest relied on their outstanding keeper to pull off countless saves to preserve their lead.

The result was good news for non-playing Moorside Rangers who stay three points behind Signol but with a massive five games in hand on the leaders.

Didsbury stay in the bottom two after losing 5-3 in an entertaining game at Oldham Vics and there was a welcome 3-2 derby win for bottom team Swinton at Salford Vics. Milton’s recent good run was ended in a 3-1 defeat at Trafford United.

The only game played in division two saw AFC Oldham miss a chance to close the gap on leaders Waterloo as they crashed to a 6-0 defeat hosting Parrs Wood Celtic seconds.

Salford Vics seconds had a chance to increase their lead at the top of division three but were held to a 3-3 draw by Chadderton Park and only lead the table by one point from Didsbury seconds who have three games in hand

Newton Heath seconds stay in the mix after an emphatic 7-0 drubbing of Hooley Bridge Celtic seconds.

Division A managed to get all of its league fixtures completed and Hollingworth closed the gap on leaders Chorltonians Rovers, who were in Whitehead Cup action, with a comfortable5-1 win over Bury Ams seconds.

Whalley Range thirds also missed the chance to go level on points with the leaders as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Signol Athletic seconds.

Tintwistle Athletic seconds were 3-1 winners at Aldermere where again Flixton Park survived the worst of the weather.

Athletic took a deserved lead on 30 minutes following a superb advantage played by referee Mike Hart allowing Sam Swann to drive the ball home.

James Wilson doubled their lead before Aldermere reduced the arrears with a spot kick from Peter Walster.

Tintwistle missed from the spot as Sam Swann blazed over the bar before they sealed victory with a neat finish from Liam Nolan.

AFC Oldham seconds stay at the foot of the table after going down 3-2 at fellow strugglers Moston Brook thirds.

Abacus Media will take some catching as they extended their lead in division B to a huge 12 points with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Old Strets seconds while main rivals Old Trafford and Gorse Hill lost by the same score-line hosting Village Manchester.
