Appeal on care home allegations

-

POLICE have launched an investigation into reports of sexual abuse of young boys at a former care home.

The reports relate to boys who were residents at Belmont House, on Baker Street in Heaton Norris, between 1989 and 1990.

The care home, also known as Belmont Assessment Centre, has subsequently closed down.

Investigators are appealing for anybody who may have information to come forward, particularly people who may have worked or live at the home.

Det Con Karen Wileman, of GMP’s Public Protection Division, said: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation but have made extensive enquiries since this report was made.

“Although many years have passed since it took place, we take all reports of sexual offences seriously, no matter how long ago they may have happened.

“Given the time that has passed, people who were previously residents or members of staff at the home may have moved to different areas of the country, or even abroad, but we are keen to speak to anyone who was involved with the home around the time the abuse took place.

“It is possible that these people may hold key information and I would ask that any of them who see or hear about this appeal to please come forward.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 7974 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
