Casino, homes and shops plan for site
ADERELICT site containing a former pub, empty shop and plot where a house once stood could be redeveloped into a casino.
Lee Farrell has submitted a planning application to Stockport Council to transform the site on London Road, Hazel Grove.
He wants to convert the empty former White Hart pub into four flats and two shops.
The building was bought from previous owner Robinson’s brewery on the condition it not be used for the sale of beer, wine or spirits.
His plan for the adjacent plot where the house used to be is to turn it into a shop and two flats.
And the unoccupied shop - which has been empty for four years would be divided up into two units, one a cafe and the other a ‘small casino,’ with another two flats above.
Laurence Jay, agent for the proposed development, has submitted a report to the council outlining the case for it.
In it he says: “We believe we have found a viable solution to preserving the existing buildings in the long term. At present the properties are vacant and subject to deterioration and vandalism.
“During this vacant period the property has been broken into and vandalised several times.
“The sooner these premises are occupied the better, not only for the properties themselves but also for the immediate surrounding area.”
The application is a re submission of one that the council received from Mr Farrell, who lives in Marple, for the same site last year.
Originally it had included a takeaway but no casino.
It is unlikely any of the 11 flats will be affordable housing as it is argued the area already has house prices that are ‘significantly below’ borough average.
The application is currently out to consultation, which ends on February 7 for the public and three days later for nearby residents who may be potentially affected.
A decision from Stockport Council is expected early to mid March.
